The Canberra Inn was built in 1857, with round timber poles and framing, clad with handmade vertical timber slabs. These are building techniques characteristic of the pioneer era, and served it well as a regular stopping place for the Queanbeyan-Yass mail coach. A visitor in 1878 reported that the Inn was “deserving of wide renown for its excellent beer” and described its fare as “first class”. The Inn’s excellent reputation lives on, now with very modern facilities for your next function. We have two venues, perfect for your next function. See below for their features and suitability.

We have a variety of food available if you require catering for your event. We are very happy to talk you through any aspect of the menu and will accommodate any special requests where possible.

The Shumack Room

The Schumack Room

Capacity: 150 (Min. guests: 20)

The Schumack Room, named in honour of the Inn’s founder, is a sunny indoor/outdoor area drenched in wisteria. It also boasts indoor & outdoor seating and established gardens.

We can tailor a menu from our extensive range of finger food platters, for you and your guests to enjoy in this beautiful location. Meanwhile the main bar is nice and close right next to the Schumack Room to keep everyone well refreshed.

Friday & Saturday Sunday
Hire charge $0 $0
+Minimum spend $2000 on food and/or drinks $1500 on food and/or drinks
= Total $2000 $1500

Guests: 20(min) – 150(max)

Evening functions are guaranteed exclusive: 7pm–12am = 5 hours

Extended exclusive hire available up to: 2am, provided guests are still buying drinks.

If hire is not extended, the room/area: Closes

Latest closing time: 2am

Drink options: Bar tab, Cash bar/Pay as you go

Seasonal surcharges: Nov-Dec: Additional $500 minimum spend

Mon-Thu functions: $1000 minimum spend

The Kookaburra Room

The Kookaburra Room

Capacity: 40 (Min. guests: 20)

The Kookaburra Room is an indoor dining and function area which accesses the adjoining beer garden for alfresco moonlight cocktails and starlight beers.

The main bar is just inside past the beer garden and only a few metres away, ensuring your guests are well hydrated throughout the evening.

The Kookaburra Room is also ideal for intimate dinner functions. A set menu can be created or orders can be placed in advance from our regular food menu.
